J’ai pris le bus depuis Médan, direction le lac Toba. Durant les 4h de route, on a tout le loisir de regarder le paysage : monocultures de palmier à huile et d’arbres à caoutchouc, principaux responsables de la déforestation.
I took the bus in Medan, direction Lac Toba. During the 4 hours of travel, you have all your time to look at the landscape : monocultures of oil palm and rubber tree, principal causes of deforestation.

Le lac Toba est le plus grand lac volcanique du monde et le plus grand lac d’Asie du Sud-Est, avec 100 km de long pour 35 km de large. Il s’est formé après la dernière éruption du supervolcan Toba, il y a environ 73 000 ans, et est profond de près de 500 m.
Arrivée à Parapat sur les rives du lac, de petits ferry attendent les voyageurs pour aller sur l’île de Samosir.
The lac Toba is the biggest volcanic lac in the world and the biggest lac in Southeast Asia, with its 100 km long and 35 km wide. It was formed after the latest eruption of supervolcano Toba, 73.000 years ago, and is really deep (about 500 m).
Arrival at Parapat on one side of the lac, little ferries are waiting people to conduce them on Samosir island.

Le ferry me dépose à Tuk tuk, où je vais passer quelques jours dans une chambre au “Liberta Homestay”, avec une vue splendide sur le lac et des gens super gentils.
The ferry drops me at Tuk tuk, where I am going to stay a few days at “Liberta Homestay”, with an amazing view on the lac and very friendly people.

Le lendemain, petit tour au marché et j’en profite pour admirer l’architecture Batak sur le chemin. Ils pratiquaient les sacrifices humains, avec un musée visible à Ambarita. Autre particularité : ils enterrent leurs morts à côté de la maison familiale (parfois il n’y a que quelques mètres de distance !).
Next day, little visit of the market and I take this opportunity to look at the Batak architecture on the way. They were doing human sacrifices, with reliques in the Ambarita museum. Other particularity : they bury their deaths close to their home (sometimes just a few meters apart !).

Je suis restée sur Samosir le 17 Août, jour de l’indépendance et fête nationale. Dans le stade d’Ambarita, bonne ambiance et danses au programme : je n’y échappe pas et une femme tente de m’apprendre quelques mouvements traditionnels !
I was in Samosir during the indonesian national holidays, on the 17th August. In Ambarita stadium, good ambience and danses : a woman even tries to teach me some traditional movements !

L’île est montagneuse et le plus pratique pour visiter reste de louer une moto. Vue imprenable et découverte d’un lac avec une petite île (l’île dans le lac dans l’île dans le lac dans le volcan, pas facile).
The island is mountainous and the most practical to visit is to rent a motorbike. Wonderful view and discovery of a lac with a little island (the island into the lac into the island into the lac into the volcano, not easy).
